Celebrate Dad with Klatch Coffee’s Classic Aged Whiskey Reserve

For those who celebrate, Father’s Day can be one of the most meaningful yet challenging holidays of the year. Father figures come in many different forms. Some are coaches, some are teachers, and some could even be older siblings that helped watch over you growing up. Regardless of whether it's dad or someone in place of dad, father figures often serve as a steady foundation in our lives, offering guidance, support, humor, and stoic strength. Whether they’re teaching life lessons, lending a helping hand, or cheering from the sidelines, they play a lasting role in who we become.

To help take some of the pressure off finding the perfect gift, activity, or experience for dad, Klatch Coffee is reintroducing one of our most requested seasonal favorites, the Aged Whiskey Reserve coffee.

What type of coffee is the Aged Whiskey Reserve?

Sourced by Klatch Coffee's own Founder and Roastmaster, Mike Perry, the Aged Whiskey Reserve is a combination of two types of Brazilian coffee beans. Straight from the famed Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil, the Yellow and Red Catuai beans are hand-picked from three top farms, infused at our facility in Rancho Cucamonga, and then roasted to perfection.

Why did you choose Brazilian coffees?

Brazilian coffee is excellent for infusions because of its low acidity, high body, and sweet, chocolatey, nutty flavor profiles. Brazilian beans tend to be mellow, with uniform profiles that make it a highly versatile, crowd-pleasing base to blend with other flavors without then making the coffee too bright or too bitter. Grown at relatively lower altitudes compared to other origins, coffees from Brazil are often less acidic. This lack of sharp, bright acids allows for better extraction, whether you’re brewing hot coffee or cold brew. Without too much natural fruitiness in the beans and a solid, chocolatey sweetness, they’re neutral and pair well with many flavors.

Brazilian beans also excel with medium to dark roasts, adding body without excessive bitterness. Additionally, many producers in Brazil use natural processing, which increases the body and enhances the sweetness of the beans. Their mild, consistent nature makes them the preferred choice for an infusion!

What makes this coffee so special?

We’ve brought together two timeless indulgences—premium Brazilian coffee and whiskey-soaked oak barrels—to craft something truly unforgettable. The beans rest in our seasoned wooden barrels for at least sixty days, absorbing the character and complexity of the whiskey within. The result is a luxurious cup bursting with notes of smoked wood, sweet honey, and warm spice, with a silky smooth finish and a caramelized, oaky depth that lingers on the palate even after you’ve finished the cup.
Whether you enjoy it hot or over ice, the Klatch Aged Whiskey Reserve Coffee is the perfect companion to cut through the June gloom and elevate any morning or evening. It’s playful, bold, and undeniably smooth, made to raise spirits and eyebrows alike.

Does this coffee contain alcohol?

No, this coffee can be enjoyed by anyone of all ages that enjoys coffee! Although we are using whiskey-soaked oak barrels, which are typically high in alcohol content at about 60-70% ABV during aging, we are soaking our green coffee beans in the barrels. This means that the alcohol is infused before the coffee is roasted. Just like cooking with wine, the heat from the roast burns away the alcohol within the coffee! Alcohol begins to evaporate at 173°F, or 87°C, and this coffee is roasted at a temperature that reaches a low of 403°F, or 206°C.

Why does the packaging look different from regular coffees?

Just in time for gifting on Father’s Day, our Aged Whiskey Reserve is delivered in a unique glass jar that’s ready to wrap and give to dad. Not only is the glass jar great for repurposing for storage, it also echoes the rich tradition of aged whiskey. With its premium quality coffee and premium look, enjoying the Aged Whiskey Reserve is more than just trying a coffee—it’s enjoying an entire experience.

What’s your recommendation for brewing this coffee?

We recommend brewing this coffee as an iced pour over, though it can still be enjoyed hot! Please see below for our recommended recipe for the iced pour over:

  1. Place filter in brewer, wet with water, then discard water.
  2. Add 100g ice to carafe.
  3. Put 20g ground coffee (like table salt) in the brewer.
  4. Pour 30-35g hot water over coffee, bloom 30-35 sec.
  5. At 35 sec, spiral pour 20 sec to 200g.
  6. Add 150g of ice to brewed coffee once previous pour has drained from the ground coffee.
  7. Serve, then enjoy!

For a ready-to-serve drink that’s a little different from a classic pour over, we recommend trying to replicate our in-store special, the Sláinte (pronounced like slawn-che, translating to “cheers” in Irish”)!

Follow the same recipe for an iced pour over. Then, instead of serving as-is, add 1oz of vanilla syrup (either homemade or store bought) to the pour over. Then, in a separate container, add 0.5oz of vanilla syrup and 2oz of heavy cream (or a dairy alternative). Froth it up by shaking the container or with a handheld frother to create a nice, thick vanilla cold foam. Once the texture is how you like it, pour it on top of your iced pour over, and enjoy.
